One of the big questions we will look at is with hundreds of different road bike companies to choose from all will similar prices to choose from ranging from $1000 to $15,000, how do you figure out which one to choose? We’ll look at what you should buy and where and how much you should pay. It's really isn’t as complicated as you might think, and part of the fun is shopping for your bike.
Where you decide to buy your bike will depend on a few things like, are you looking to buy new or used. New could mean buying from a local bike shop where you can get a lot of help with set up and sizing etc. While buying used can mean buying locally from someone you know or answering a local add or you could be shopping online. All of the choices are good ones for different reasons. Like buying online could save you a lot of cash but you need to know what you’re looking for and the right size, at the same time you are taking your chances because even with pictures they don’t always tell the full story.
When it comes to the bikes themselves more companies than ever are using new technologies and materials to try to differentiate themselves by making their bikes stiffer or stronger or lighter or nicer to ride than their competition. Others believe that the best way is to keep things simple and just create a solid balanced road frame that is simply shaped and light weight out of large carbon tubes. Sure there are plenty of great bikes out there, but only a few can put it all together well, quality, performance and price.
A new study shows that in places where people ride bikes more, the people are healthier, happier and more successful. I bet this is even more true for those riding road bikes.
Happy biking!
